Update on Diabetes and Viruses

May 8, 2017

Dear Friends,

This week we have two virology papers:

1) Mutation rate in RNA viruses, limits and fitness - concepts relevant to enteroviruses http://journals.plos.org/plospathogens/article?id=10.1371/journal.ppat.1006254;

2) Norovirus Abs in sera collected over 4 decades.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28468886

Norovirus infection has not yet been linked to diabetes, or other autoimmune disease. Interesting observations: sera with reduced IgA levels still have sufficient tieters of norovirus-blocking Abs; sera collected over 4 decades are still blocking a recently emerging strain. Interesting technology: virus-like particles. In principle, the method could be applied to enteroviruses.

Have a nice weekend, Antonio
