Diabetes & Viruses - Update

March 3, 2017

Dear Friends,

Last week I attended the nPOD meeting in Fort Lauderdale.

Here are two papers of general interest:

One on virus sequencing methods, applications, perspectives (instructive for typing diabetes-associated enteroviruses.

- Houldcroft, Charlotte; Beale, Matthew; Breuer, Judity (2017) 'Clinical and Biological Insights from Viral Genome Sequencing' In Nature Reviews Microbiology 15 183-192

The other on picornavirus replication: PLA2G16 facilitates the transfer of picornavirus genomes from Galectin-positive vesicles into the cytoplasm, thus favouring genome expression.  The motion could be of use in constructing cells capable of replicating defective enteroviruses.

- Starling, Shimona (2017) 'Competing Membrane Proteins Regulate Picornavirus Genome Delivery' In Nature Reviews Biology 15 132-133

Yours, Antonio
